About the Role
Great Ormond Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and aspiring individual to take on an administrative role within the world-renowned Oncology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Together with Haematology, the Oncology Department forms the largest Paediatric/Adolescent Oncology Centre in Europe and is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of patient focused care to some of the most critically ill children in our region.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and friendly individual to work within our supportive, knowledgeable and rewarding team. The successful candidate must have a willingness to learn and continually develop their skills, have the ability to use their own initiative and be dedicated and hardworking.
We are looking for an experienced administrator who is a motivated, numerate and articulate individual with good computer skills to provide an efficient and effective service to patients, families and consultants in this demanding environment. You will require excellent communication skills and have an understanding of patient financial services. Previous experience of working with Embassies and Insurance companies would be an advantage, but this is also an ideal opportunity for someone who wants development in the private patient area.

Main Duties
- To take responsibility for ensuring that ward beds are booked in line with utilisation targets and escalating any issues that may arise to the admissions manager.
- To take responsibility for producing and circulating accurate admissions lists on a weekly basis.
- To demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with staff and stakeholders4. To communicate with patients and their families/carers both verbally and in writing confirming admission dates.
- To answer and respond to any queries or concerns raised by patients and their families/carers, staff and other stakeholders related to their admissions.
- To contact and liaise with support services and other specialities as needed by the patients and their families i.e. transport, interpreters and Patient Hotel bookings, ensuring that documentation is sent to the necessary departments and parents/carers are also notified.
- To ensure that all patients are seen within the 18-week referral to treatment (RTT) or 6 week wait diagnostic pathways.
- To develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders both internally and externally.
- To rebook all hospital-initiated cancellations within 28 days, taking into account the patient waiting time avoiding potential breaches and ensure all actions are communicated to the Assistant Service Manager promptly.
- To attend all relevant meetings.
Qualifications
Academic/Professional qualification/Training (Desirable)
- Educated to GCSE or equivalent level, with at least 5 A*-C GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths
