Position: Consultant in Dental Public Health

Salary: £99,532 to £131,964 per year

NHS England are seeking to appoint a number of enthusiastic, dynamic, self-motivated and innovative individuals to join us in the role of Consultant in Dental Public Health. The successful candidates will join a dedicated and committed Healthcare Public Health team and bring professional credibility and robust leadership to engage, support, develop and deliver the dental public health offer to the NHS and wider system.

To succeed in this role, candidates will be familiar with the wide range of stakeholders who can contribute to Dental Public Health outcomes and have a clear focus on the Public Health added value they can offer.

Main Duties

  • Provide specialist dental public health advice to the NHS and wider System.
  • Provide professional leadership to advocate for oral health Improvement, reducing inequalities, and improvements in oral Health services.
  • Health Protection including emergency preparedness response
  • Engagement in workforce training and development
  • Undertaking administration and management tasks related to the Duties of the post
  • Undertaking other appropriate responsibilities at the request of The Regional Director or Deputy Regional Director following Discussion with the post holder
  • Contributing to the development of dental public health policy and Strategy in NHS England
  • Participating in dental public health and public health networks Providing specialist oral health advice to relevant programmes of work
  • Contributing to or leading national pieces of work where the Consultant has appropriate expertise and skills as required


  • Full registration with the UK General Dental Council (GDC)
  • On the GDC Specialist List or Within 6 months of eligibility for Inclusion
  • Masters Degree in Dental Public Health or equivalent
  • Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Dental Public Health or equivalent
  • Possession of a Certificate Of Accreditation or within 6 Months of eligibility for a CCST in Dental Public Health
  • Successful completion of an SAC-approved 4-year Minimum training programme In Dental Public Health (3 Years if in possession of an SAC-approved Masters Qualification), or within 6 months of completion, or Equivalent
  • Experience of post-graduate And undergraduate teaching And training at an appropriate Level
  • Able to prioritise and deliver high quality work Against a background of Change and uncertainty
  • Experience of achieving Innovation and change
