Job description

  • You’ll take ownership of full projects or parts of large-scale programmes, ensuring delivery was to agreed parameters of quality, time and cost, ensuring appropriate governance is followed. For example, plans, risks, issues and dependencies with effective escalation where necessary, owning them until they are resolved. 
  • You’ll track and manage project progress and budget, providing helpful and accurate reporting to more senior project managers and/or governance boards. Actively managing change and governance for your projects, taking all cross-project impacts into account.
  • You’ll manage team dynamics, encouraging collaboration and shared ownership throughout the team. Deal with conflict and help establish a positive team culture. 
  • You’ll build and manage stakeholder relationships across internal teams and suppliers, proactively identifying risks and issues and managing these.
  • You’ll communicate consistently across internal and external stakeholders, tailoring messages to ensure that it is right for the audience and consistent with broader project/digital messaging. 
  • You’ll take responsibility for your own learning and development, continuously improving knowledge and skills in principles, methods, and tools as well as coaching and mentor Associates, identifying improvements in ways of working where appropriate.
  • The vacant posts are in our DWP Infrastructure Services (Networks) team who are responsible for managing a range of Network Services and Products. Working in collaboration with a range of internal and external partners, stakeholders and customers we ensure the operational stability, availability and quality of DWP Networks.

Hybrid Working

This role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work.

Salary Information

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer will maintain their current salary.  

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion will either move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or get a 10% increase to their current salary whichever would be the greater. New entrants to the Civil Service will join on band minimum.

Can demonstrate effective project controls to demonstrate the health of the projects they are responsible for and react accordingly to the information gathered. 

Proven experience of building and managing effective stakeholder relationships to shape the outcomes of a project, considering different individual needs, views, and ideas.   

Demonstrable experience of building team dynamics and identifying ways to improve the way the team is working 

Communicate in a straightforward, honest, and engaging manner, choosing appropriate styles and tools to maximise and check understanding and impact. 

  • Technical statement (up to 250 words). The following statement is aligned to the required technical skill of Project Management.

 Proven ability to take full ownership of digital projects, including defining the strategy, setting the approach, leading facilitation, and ensuring successful delivery. Particularly where projects had direct business impact and were subject to strict deadlines

The sift panel will use the information in your employment history, personal statement, and technical statement to assess your experience, skills and knowledge.

An initial sift will be conducted using the technical statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will be progressed to a full sift.

Stage 2: Interview
