The ideal candidate will be a motivated team player with a keen eye for detail. Apply today!
About the College
Founded in 1853, Cheltenham Ladies’ College began as an educational institution with just 82 day pupils. The college saw significant growth under the leadership of Dorothea Beale, who served for nearly 50 years from 1858. She played a key role in introducing mathematics and science to the curriculum, despite initial opposition from parents who believed these subjects were unsuitable for girls.
In 1873, the college moved to its current location, the site of the original Cheltenham Spa. Initially, the new campus included only a boarding house, a few classrooms, and the Lower Hall, but it quickly expanded to feature music rooms, a library, and laboratories. To further support higher education opportunities for women, Miss Beale later founded St Hilda’s College, Oxford, in 1893.
By 1900, Cheltenham Ladies’ College had evolved into a thriving educational community with over 1,000 students, including boarders, day pupils, and part-time students, studying from Kindergarten to Degree level.
During the Second World War, the college faced significant challenges. In September 1939, all college buildings were requisitioned by the War Office, leading to lessons being relocated to army huts for the duration of the war.
