About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Domiciliary Care Assistant to join our team. As a carer, you will be responsible for visiting service users in their own homes, ensuring they receive the highest standards of care and support. The role is focused on promoting independence, choice, rights, and quality of life for each individual.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Providing companionship and emotional support to service users.
Accompanying individuals when going out of the house, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Assisting with personal care tasks such as washing, dressing, and hygiene needs.
Offering meal and nutritional support, including food preparation and serving.
Medication support, ensuring proper administration and adherence to prescribed schedules.
Main Duties
- Assisting the patient with bathing, grooming, and getting dressed: Ensuring that the patient maintains good hygiene and feels comfortable with their appearance. This may involve helping with bathing, brushing teeth, dressing, and maintaining personal grooming standards.
- Handling household tasks like grocery shopping and laundry: Assisting with everyday chores that the patient might not be able to perform due to physical limitations. This can include grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, and other general housekeeping tasks.
- Preparing and serving meals at the appropriate time: Preparing nutritious meals that meet the patient’s dietary needs and ensuring that the patient is eating regularly. This could also involve assisting with feeding if necessary.
- Administering oral and topical medication under the supervision of medical personnel: Providing medication management support, including ensuring medications are taken at the correct times and in the proper amounts, under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
- Providing mental and emotional support: Offering companionship and providing emotional reassurance to help patients cope with their physical or mental health challenges. This may include simply being there to listen or engaging in light conversation to help reduce feelings of isolation or anxiety.
- Making recommendations to family members and healthcare personnel on the plan of care: Keeping open communication with family members and healthcare providers to ensure the patient’s needs are being met. This could involve offering suggestions based on observations of the patient’s condition or progress.
- Organising suitable recreational activities for the patient: Engaging the patient in enjoyable and appropriate activities to improve their quality of life, whether through hobbies, games, reading, or outings, all based on their preferences and abilities.
- Collaborating with other healthcare and social care professionals to provide the best possible care: Working with nurses, doctors, social workers, and other professionals involved in the patient’s care to ensure a holistic and well-coordinated approach to care.
- Assessing and managing risk in line with company policies and procedures and government regulations
Qualifications
- At least 6 months of previous experience caring for a loved one or paid experience as a care assistant, domiciliary carer, support worker or personal healthcare assistant
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good IT skills, as all of our systems are online you’ll spend less time writing admin and more time with your client
- The right to work in the UK – please note we can provide sponsorship or accept skilled worker visas.
- Available to work various hours.
- Must have access to your own vehicle and a valid driving license for travel between rounds.
- A clear DBS check and right to work documentation.
- Two satisfactory references.
