Position: Family Support Worker (Targeted Early Help)

Salary: £37,443 to £39,264 per year

About the Role

The Targeted Early Help Team is a dynamic and progressive unit operating within a diverse borough undergoing significant development. The team is actively involved in shaping and developing its services, with a particular focus on establishing Best Chance Hubs.

Strong collaborative relationships exist between the team and colleagues in the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, Social Care, schools, health services, and the wider community. This collaborative environment fosters professional growth through ample opportunities for training, development, and joint projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant Targeted Early Help Team in the role of Family Support Worker.

The job Is rewarding and challenging, working with children (aged 0-19 years) and their families, to provide frontline targeted support when families are in need. We work with families who have a range of needs and challenges and provide intervention, working in partnership with the families and other agencies, like schools, health providers and the voluntary sector, to help families to move on with their lives. We work in the community, in family homes, children’s centres, schools and other settings.

The successful candidate will work with 13 families or 27 children at any time. You will be responsible for the completion of the families Early Help Assessment along with completing meaningful direct work and leading on Team Around the Family Meetings ensuring that positive outcomes for children are achieved.

Main Duties

  • Work alongside multi agency partners to provide robust assessment, intervention and review to meet the needs of the family.
  • Take on the lead professional role with a defined number of families who meet the Targeted Early Help threshold.
  • Work with all family members and partners to develop a whole family assessment which leads to the identification of need to inform a robust plan of support.
  • Assess the risk of all family members using relevant tools to ensure safety and wellbeing is considered and informs the family’s plan,
  • Based on the assessment, to lead on the development of a child focused outcome based plan in conjunction with all family members and multi-agency partners.
  • Complete purposeful and timely interventions and direct work with the family and wider partnership to meet the outcomes identified within the family’s plan.
  • Lead on the Team Around the Family meetings to review progress and update plans.
  • To complete accurate and timely records and reports to support and evidence the work with the family.
  • Ensure all work meets the requirements and timeframes outlined within the Targeted Early help Practice Standards.
  • Ensure that safeguarding children is central to all work completed and that appropriate action is taken in line with the borough’s safeguarding procedures.
  • Complete work with children and families in one-to-one and group settings, in family homes and a range of community settings.
  • Lead and contribute to a range of professionals’ meetings, council wide forums and ad-hoc events
  • Provide support for families with multiple and diverse needs, including disability, mental health, domestic abuse, substance misuse, financial exclusion and deprivation.

  • Provide services that are fair and accessible to all, challenging existing practices that support the

  • Project management
  • Undertake assigned projects, ensuring that agreed outcomes are delivered on time, within budget and to the expected standard.

Qualification

  • Evidence of continuous professional development (children and families)
  • Customer service skills and experience of providing in-depth targeted support for children and families
  • Experience of building positive relationships and enabling respectful challenge with families and professionals
  • Can demonstrate proven ability to work in a non-discriminatory manner
  • Ability to prioritise and plan your own work load effectively, while manging conflicting demands
  • It is beneficial to have experience working with children and families, providing support and completing meaningful direct work to ensure positive outcomes for children are met. Most importantly, flexibility, a willingness to learn and work as part of a team and enthusiasm are all important attributes.
