This is an exciting opportunity to join our Acute Medical Unit (Ward 7) as a Health Care Assistant.

As a Health Care Assistant you will assist the health care practitioner to carry out routine health related activities and complete personal care and activities of daily living ensuring patient led focused care.

You will record patient information and provide clinical support as required to help ensure the efficient and effective running of the work area, including delegated tasks such as recording physiological observations, recording blood glucose, undertaking ECG, and venepuncture.

You will provide a positive enthusiastic attitude, delivering high quality care with excellent interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist the team in preparing the Unit environment for patient care delivery.
  • To complete delegated tasks such as undertaking and recording vital signs, ECG, venepuncture, Blood glucose levels, swabs etc.
  • To ensure own actions help to maintain quality and infection control standards.
  • Establish and maintain communication with patients, relatives and cares and the multidisciplinary team to be able to provide information to others to help their development.
  • Develop own skills and knowledge and provide information to others to help their development.
  • Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing services.
  • Assist in planning, delivering and evaluating programmes to meet people’s health and wellbeing needs.
  • Assist in the use of technology for measurement, monitoring and treatment.
  • Ability to work flexibly and unsociable hours to meet the demands of the service.

Changes to the UK immigration policy introduced on the 9th April 2025, increased the minimum salary threshold for certificates of sponsorship applications for Health and Care Worker Visa from £23,200 (£11.90 per hour) to £25,000 (£12.82 per hour). As per Agenda for Change, if you are new to the NHS your starting salary would be £24,937 (minimum Band 3 salary point from 1st April 2025 in line with National Living Wage requirements). Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship – or equivalent experience
  • Level 1 literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G)
  • Care Certificate

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working as a care support worker or equivalent in a Health or Social Care setting
  • Experience of working within a team

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrates an interest or previous experience in supporting other health care staff and learners
  • Commitment to undertaking continuous professional development (CPD)

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Good communication (written and verbal skills)
  • Basic IT skills
  • Good organisational skills
