Health Information Analyst at CNTW NHS Trust (CoS Available)

Salary: £46,148 -£52,809 per annum

About the Role

Since 2009 the North East Quality Observatory Service (NEQOS) has been providing a quality measurement service to NHS organisations across the North East.

The successful candidate will be required to support the many and varied projects NEQOS is delivering for NHS organisations, NICE and other stakeholders.

The role involves the provision and analysis of health information and data, using appropriate statistical and analytical techniques and methods, in order to deliver and lead projects within the NEQOS work programme. The postholder will be responsible for leading projects involving the development of information resources (including dashboards and other Business Intelligence products) within specified areas.

Successful candidates will have recent significant experience in the processing of data and information and the statistical analysis, presentation, and interpretation of highly complex health, healthcare (e.g. HES / SUS data), or demographic information.

Educated to at least degree level in a subject with a substantial quantitative content with a relevant post-graduate / masters in specialist statistical data analysis/information systems/epidemiology/public health or equivalent

Main Duties

Communication & relationships

  • Face to face, telephone and written communications with all levels of management and professional advisors
  • Direct liaison with data providers;  Negotiate delivery timescales and priorities with NEQOS staff. 
  • Communicate complex analytical and statistical matters with other NEQOS analytical staff e.g. development of methodology;

Analytical and judgemental skills

  • To provide expert analysis and presentation of health and healthcare information for NEQOS to support and facilitate quality measurement and projects across the NHS in the North, and occasionally beyond this area.
  • Responsible for the design and production of health information reports and complex data analysis using industry standard software, programming languages and web technologies to support reporting requirements.  This will involve effective information monitoring, statistical analysis and reporting of highly complex and often controversial information to inform decisions to improve service delivery and the quality of patient care.

Qualifications

Education and Qualification (Essential)

  • Educated to at least Degree Level in a subject with a substantial quantitative content with a relevant post-graduate/masters qualification in specialist statistical data analysis/information systems/epidemiology/public health or equivalent.
  • Track record of learning and self-development, including continuous personal updating on current NHS issues, analytical/statistical method and techniques and performance concepts

Knowledge and Experience (Essential)

  • In-depth expert knowledge of industry standard database and spreadsheet packages to undertake complex data management and manipulation. Knowledge and understanding of healthcare data sources and their quality and reliability e.g.HES/SUS.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft suite. E.g. Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, email, Internet Explorer
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of research techniques and methodologies
  • Practical knowledge of data presentation tools and techniques.
  • Very good knowledge and understanding of statistical methods, used in the analysis of health data.
  • A good understanding of data security and confidentiality issues.
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Recent significant experience in the processing of data and information and the statistical analysis, presentation, and interpretation of highly complex health, healthcare (e.g. HES / SUS data), or demographic information.
  • Track record in developing and designing analytical solutions using industry standard software packages to support and improve measurement of performance and quality.
  • Experience of Business Intelligence / Data Visualisation tools
  • Experience in presenting highly complex information to a wide variety of audiences in an understandable way.
  • Experience of working autonomously using own discretion.
  • Track record of coordinating projects in challenging environment.
  • NHS Analytical experience

Skills and Competencies (Essential)

  • Highly numerate with very advanced analytical skills, in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, Powerpoint), email and Internet browsing.
  • Ability to demonstrate good understanding of users needs to enable the translation of requirements into business solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including report writing and technical documentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage clinicians and senior managers in discussions about quality issues. This includes negotiation and influencing skills necessary to communicate sensitive and / or contentious quality and performance improvement issues.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Good judgemental skills to source alternative information sources and methods of analysis when appropriate.
  • Highly developed, fast and accurate keyboard skills for manipulation of data and programming of software solutions
  • Ability to work to deadlines under pressure.
  • Organisational and prioritisation skills, in order to prioritise workload, balance routine and ad hoc work and effectively manage competing demands.
  • Ability to act as both an effective team player and work independently, managing own workload without supervision.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills will be required for assessment of the full range of quality and performance information for a multiplicity of organisations and for the formulation of improvement strategies where opinions may differ on the best course of action to advise stakeholders on.
  • Able to travel independently throughout the region and nationally, if required.
