Salary: £22,816 to £24,336 per annum (pro rata)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our CQC rated ‘Outstanding’ Trust, within our Westcall, Urgent Care Service.

Based at Royal Berkshire Hospital, you will be working in a passionate integrated team operating in partnership with the Practitioners in the Out of Hours GPs and other multidisciplinary teams within Berkshire Healthcare.

As a healthcare assistant, you will be working within our Out of Hours Service booking patients in and carrying out observations and treating wounds with the support of the practitioners.

Our service is open 7 days a week 365 days a year. Our opening hours are:

Monday-Fridays 18.30pm-00.00am

Saturdays 0800am-00.00am

Sundays- 0800am-00.00am

Bank Holidays 0800am-00.00am

The role will be covering the following shifts:

Monday- Friday: 19:00hrs to 23:00hrs

Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: 11:00hrs to 23:00hrs

Main Duties

  • Welcome patients to Westcall in a courteous and helpful manner trying to allay fears and anxieties that they may have.
  • Book patients onto the clinical database collecting all relevant information in timely and accurate manner
  • Be able to demonstrate independent working while working in a constantly changing environment and without direct supervision but being able to ask the team for advice when required.
  • Be able to act on own initiative manage own daily workload comprising of both routine and unpredictable/unplanned activities
  • Undertaking appropriate clinical observations/vital signs
  • Performing simple wound care/burns/venepuncture/ECGs/urinalysis.
  • Carry out administrative duties for the Urgent Care Service as directed

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 Health and social care or equivalent
  • Effective communication in English

Desirable

  • RSA 1 Typing Skills or equivalent
  • NVQ in Customer Care
  • Relevant courses specific to the role, e.g., wound care/burns management/plastering
  • Continuous Professional Development
  • Computer skills
  • Evidence of ongoing development

Desirable

  • Microsoft Word or Equivalent
  • Basic life support

Previous Experience (Essential)

  • Experience in a customer based environment
  • A level of clinical knowledge
  • Previous experience of working in a health care setting

Desirable

  • Broad range of work experience

  • Excellent Communication Skills – written and oral
