Position: Healthcare Assistant

Salary: £29,485 to £31,088 a year pas inclusive pro rata

About the Role

You need to be passionate about providing high quality, emergency same day care in this fast paced, evolving and exciting area of acute emergency care. You must have excellent communication skills and be excited about being part of an innovative nursing team.

This is an exciting time to join Same Day Emergency Care as we increase the numbers of patients attending the service. We see approximately 60-70 patients a day on each site, with varying presentations including renal colic, DVT, cellulitis, low risk chest pain and many more. We work closely with the Emergency Department, taking many patients from the Urgent Care Centre and ED triage, as well as patients from General Practice, London Ambulance Service and 111.

This post consists of a mixture of long days (08:00-20:30) and long day B shifts (09:30-22:00) and includes weekends, but no nights.

You will be supported by a Deputy matron and the Matron of SDEC.

Main duties of the job

To assist and support the registered nurse, under supervision, with the delivery of direct patient care, with the needs of the patient at the centre of care delivery.

To improve the patient experience.

General Responsibilities

  • To support the nursing team and contribute to the care delivery
  • Provide effective evidence based care for patients within the department under the indirect supervision and delegation of the Registered Nurse.
  • To work closely with the Multi-disciplinary team, including patients and families.
  • To promote a positive image of the Trust, Clinical Directorates and departments.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living when required maintaining their privacy and dignity at all times
  • Measure and record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen saturations and respiratory rate. 
  • Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse
  • Measure, record and report capillary blood glucose levels of patients when required. 
  • Provide pressure area relief and mobilisation of patients

Qualifications

Education/ Qualifications (Essential)

  • Numerate
  • Desirable
  • QCF Level 3 in Health or equivalent (NVQ3, Advanced apprenticeship)

Experience (Essential)

  • Demonstrate a clear insight into the role.
  • Up to date experience; worked within an acute care setting within the last 18 months.

Desirable

  • Previous recent care work experience in an acute NHS environment

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities (Essential)

  • Good team working and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to perform venepuncture and cannulation
