Position: Maternity Support Worker

Salary: £24,937-£26,598 per year

Job overview

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. Applicants for this role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same role (Band 3 HCA /MSW within the NHS) to meet the salary requirements to qualify for sponsorship.

To work as part of the community midwifery team carrying out assigned tasks involving direct care of the mother and baby in support of and under the supervision of a Registered Midwife, in a clinic setting and within service users own home.

Provide advice and information on maternal and infant care, including advice and support with infant feeding and the initiation of breast feeding, undertake baby observations and new-born bloodspot screening both in the hospital and community settings.

Must have a current UK driving license.

Must be car driver/have access to own car

Main duties of the job

  • Provide advice and information on maternal and infant care, including advice and support with infant feeding and the initiation of breast feeding both in the hospital and community setting, and support the dissemination of antenatal and postnatal information when supporting and teaching on parentcraft classes.
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • To support the Midwifery Team with the delivery of high quality care to all mothers and their babies in the antenatal and postnatal period. This must be in accordance with the Trust’s Clinical Guidelines
  • Give practical support, advice and information to mothers with regards the care of their baby,
  • Assisting the mother in her chosen method of infant feeding including giving advice / information on breast feeding to meet the Trust’s standards
  • Demonstrate the principles of sterilization and preparation of artificial milk feeds

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Taking and recording of maternal and new-born observations, which include temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, urinalysis and weighing babies.
  • Recording these observations within the maternal and new-born records and reporting any observations outside of the normal to the midwife.
  • Support the midwife in undertaking parent education classes
  • To be competent in Venepuncture

Essential criteria

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Car Driver with access to own car
  • GCSE maths and english level grade 4 or above (C or above)
  • Care Certificate completion

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge and experience of infant feeding
