Position: Part Time Personal Assistant/Carer

Salary: £13 an hour

About the Role

I am an 82 year old man living with my wife who is my main carer. I am a retired academic in electronical and mechanical engineering with a wide range of other interests in arts and music to name a few! Due to various cardiovascular health issues and type 2 diabetes, I have poor mobility and my mental health is also impacted. I now require support in every areas of my life.

We are looking for a PA/Carer to provide a few weekly hours of respite care, to assist me with personal care as required, prepare some food and ensure that I eat and drink fluid adequately as I tend to forget, assist me engage with social activities in the local community i.e going for a coffee etc…and to generally be keen to engage in a good blether!

Person Specification:

  • The post involved assisting with personal care, I am therefore looking for someone who is an experienced care worker, able to provide person-centred support with respect for my dignity.
  • The post may also involve meal preparation, you must therefore have an awareness of food hygiene.
  • Considering that the purpose of the post is to provide respite for the main carer, you must be able to work on your own initiative once familiar with my routine.
  • Good communication skills are also essential and an outgoing personality with a good sense of humour would be an advantage.
  • The successful applicant must be PVG registered or expected to do so when offered the job.
  • Car driver preferable but not essential

Hours and rate of pay:

I am essentially looking for someone working 4-6 hours per week, mostly during mid-day/lunch time hours. Days can be flexibly negotiated.

Hourly rate: £13 per hour
