Salary: £40,661 to £50,472 a year

About the Role

This role is to provide project management support to the Health Equity for Health Security Strategy. The postholder will be responsible for working with action owners in delivering the work of the strategy and ensuring that the strategic actions and milestones are reported on a timely basis to the UKHSA Health Equity Board. You will be joining at an exciting time, where work is starting to develop the next iteration of the strategy.

They will be required to use their existing strong project management skills to coordinate work going on across the agency and manage priority workstreams to deliver the Health Equity for Health Security Strategy. The outputs of the project will contribute to UKHSA’s strategic goal to ‘achieve more equitable health security outcomes.

This will require expertise in project management skills and an ability to work in a complex and changing environment. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring that robust monitoring and governance processes enable efficient and effective delivery against the strategy.

Main Duties

  • To Take overall responsibility for elements of the management of the Health Equity for Health Security Strategy using established stakeholder and project management techniques including knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Report as necessary to all manner of stakeholders using written highlight reports, verbal updates, and email.
  • Present, using MS PowerPoint, to project and programme boards on the progress of the project or to sell complex ideas to varied stakeholder groups.
  • Manage the production of all required products defined by the project plan within agreed time periods. This will include production or modification of process maps, scope documentation, and the management of cross-organisational task and finish groups
  • Direct and motivate teams to ensure they deliver as planned.
  • Produce project documentation using methodology consistent with other strategies within the agency
  • Manage risks, opportunities, and issues
  • Take responsibility for overall progress and use of resources and initiate corrective action where necessary
  • Be responsible for change control and configuration management in a manner consistent with other strategies within the agency
  • Serve on UKHSA working groups or committees as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience (Essential)

  • Proven record of project management of strategic projects including monitoring and evaluation of cross-organisational or complex programmes
  • Experience of presenting complex ideas to large audiences
  • Experience of working in the health sector
  • Substantial experience of report writing and process mapping

Skills and Capabilities (Essential)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, ability to liaise effectively and work with people across disciplines and professions
  • Able to work well as a team member and able to work under own initiative to tight deadlines

A presentation will also form part of the interview. The topic will be a 5 min presentation on how you would approach turning a health equity strategy into operational delivery across an organisation.

Eligibility Criteria

Location

This role is being offered as hybrid working. We offer great flexible working opportunities at UKHSA and operate using a hybrid working model where business needs allow. This provides us with greater flexibility about how and where we work, to get the best from our workforce. As a hybrid worker, you will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata, (averaged over a month) working at one of UKHSA’s core HQs (Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, and London) .

Security Clearance Level Requirement

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Basic Personnel Security Standard.
