Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager within the multi-disciplinary Property & Estates Development Team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Reporting to the Senior Capital Works Manager, this individual will be responsible for the delivery of a wide range of diverse and exciting projects on one of the three main acute sites, within the MFT group. The applicant can be from a building or engineering background and educated to a undergrade degree level or have equivalent level of knowledge gained from experience. Whilst NHS experience is desirable, we would encourage candidates that have suitable qualification but have no NHS experience to apply as specific training can be provided.

As a Projects Manager, you’ll be instrumental to the successful delivery of our annual capital programme, strategic planning and estates rationalisation. The MFT capital programme comprises of the delivery of business cases through major/minor capital projects and extensive backlog maintenance programme across the estate. We will look to you to develop and implement capital and estates strategies that ensure we achieve our development programme goals. Responding to changes called for by the modernisation agenda, you’ll ensure that we meet our statutory responsibilities and evolve in line with the NHS plan.

Main duties of the job

  • The main duties will include the commissioning and successful delivery of projects from inception through to completion. This will be achieved through the robust management of programme, budget and design throughout project delivery, ensuring health, safety and quality is kept at the forefront.
  • The successful candidate will manage Project budgets, including full accountability and responsibility for all budgets allocated and expenditure made in line with trust SFI’s ensuring best value for money, accurate and timely reporting, cost efficiencies and full adherence to trust procurement rules. This will include managing several different project budgets at the same time.
  • Ensure that appointments, tenders, contracts and subsequent payments are undertaken in accordance with the Trust’s Standing Orders, Tendering & Contracting Procedures and NHS capital planning guides.
  • Develop project feasibility studies with Users and Design Teams to form part of capital bid submissions on behalf of the Deputy Director of Estates Development, utilising Cost Consultants as required.
  • Responsible for interpreting construction contract law, Health and safety legislation including CDM, building regulations, and other requirements on estates and capital development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • HNC/HND Degree in Architecture, Building Surveying, Building Services/Engineering, Construction Project Management or other Construction related subject. Or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Desirable

  • Membership of a professional body such as RICS, RIBA, CIBSE, CIOB.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Relevant Legislation (Building Regulations, CDM, HTM, HBNs etc). Planning law/requirements and Codes of Practice
  • Familiar with different contract types and associated contract administration

Desirable

  • Previous experience within an NHS environment

Training and Experience

Essential

  • The post holder must have a minimum 3-years experience of working in a busy design/construction office with experience of: Preparing/management of detailed working drawings, for an environment with complex design construction and engineering services solutions. Preparing/Management of specifications. Preparing tender documentation. Management and Contract Administration of Construction Projects. Writing reports. Programme, Financial, Risk Management throughout the project lifecycle. Leading multi-disciplinary team and directing external consultants. Consultation and liaison with diverse user groups.
