Peterborough City Council is seeking dedicated and compassionate Relief Residential Workers to join its team supporting children and young people in a caring and inclusive environment. This casual, seasonal, or bank role offers flexibility and the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to listen empathetically to children, young people, and their families, while communicating effectively with colleagues and other professionals both verbally and in writing. Confidence in building and maintaining positive, supportive relationships with individuals and groups is essential.

Applicants should be willing to undertake relevant training, including achieving a Level 3 National Diploma (or equivalent qualification). A passion for helping others, resilience under pressure, and a commitment to promoting wellbeing and inclusion are key qualities for success in this role.

Salary: £14.82 – £14.82 per hour

All about the Role

As a residential worker here at Cherry lodge you will work with children and young people with severe disabilities between the ages of 5 and 19.

Cherry Lodge offers short breaks and shared care placements to children and young people.

In this role you will work closely with our children and young people, supporting them during their time with us.

Main duties:

As a residential worker working with our Children and young people you will …

  • Build relationships
  • Implement care plans
  • Assist with development and social skills
  • Communicate and engage
  • Ensure everyone receives appropriate levels and standard of care and support

As a relief residential worker you would be expected to cover shifts when needed including for sickness, annual leave and where additional staff is needed.

Pay – £14.82ph

  • Ability to listen to children, young people and their families and to communicate with colleagues and other professionals verbally and in writing
  • Ability to complete relevant training including National Diploma 3
  • Have confidence to establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals and groups
  • Be able to maintain a safe environment
  • Ability to encourage play and socialisation
  • Ability to work within agreed policies and procedures and use judgement appropriately
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, school holidays and bank holidays, often at short notice
