Position: Senior Healthcare Assistant

Salary: £24,071 to £25,674 a year

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the REI outpatient department, This role is to support patients requiring ophthalmology tests and treatment. Carry out ophthalmic related investigations.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and ‘At Risk’ status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Please note that applications from temporary workers who have been engaged with the Trust for a minimum of 3 months are welcome.

Available as a fixed term contract or secondment opportunity. (With current line manager’s agreement).

REI dealing with all aspects of eye health through all ages of life. We have a very enthusiastic team who are welcoming and always eager to help. In house training is provided for the right candidates. Please feel free to pay us a visit and the staff will answer any questions you may have . The vacancy is full time which at the present means 5 shifts a week .Ophthalmic experience is not essential but some knowledge is desirable.

Main Duties

  • To assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by Registered Nurses
  • To carry out care under indirect supervision.
  • To assist in Pre-operative assessment for Ophthalmic Surgical Patients
  • To organise and run a local anaesthetic list under indirect supervision
  • To supervise junior Healthcare Assistant, making a contribution to their training and development.
  • To undertake specific extended skills

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting
  • Demonstrable experience of time management and prioritising work
  • Level 3 (SCQF – 6), City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3 in relevant subject, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Aptitude & Ability (Essential)

  • Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
  • Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner / attitude
  • Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit dependant on clinical need
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
