About the Role

At UHBW, you will work suitable hours while gaining all the training you will need to excel in your role!

The Trust are looking for an enthusiastic experienced Band 3 Senior Health-Care Support Worker (SHCSW) to join their innovative and cohesive award-winning team of 23 nurses, comprising 1 sister, 2 Band 6 Senior Staff Nurses, B5 Staff Nurses, Band 3 SHCSW’s and a Housekeeper.

You will be supporting patients attending the outpatient department at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC). They run a daily dedicated Phlebotomy clinic for our Oncology and Haematology patients and deliver regular line care and blood tests to our patients.

Working in BHOC is demanding and can be challenging and they are fortunate to have access to a comprehensive staff wellbeing support.

You will be encouraged to develop and broaden your knowledge, skills and experience by offering: Additional training courses, Visiting other departments within Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, Shadowing of other staff.

Main Duties

Communication and Working Relationships

Management and Personal Development 

  • Competently organise and carry out designated workload within scope of role 
  • To recognise the importance of health education and teaching of patients and carers and inform nursing staff where this might be required 
  • To maintain his/her own professional development, attending courses/further training to enhance and optimise his/her role within the work area. 
  • To respect the confidential information, in line with Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust policy Data Protection Act, obtained in the course of work and not disclose this information. 

Clinical Activities 

  • Provide and deliver a high standard of clinical care, recognising and meeting the specific needs of patients 
  • With indirect supervision, to manage own clinical workload within the given competencies of the post 
  • To carry out clinical observations on patients, recognising, recording and reporting all changes in patients condition to nursing staff 

Administrative 

  • Document and sign for all observations and care given with counter signature from a Registered Practitioner. 
  • To support maintenance of fluid balance and dietary charts, recognising, recording and reporting all adverse findings to nursing staff.  IT Systems and Processes 
  • Use of Patient Administration System 
  • Report untoward incidents such as complaints, clinical emergencies, and injury to nursing staff via incident system (electronic system)

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths & English, or Equivalent
  • NVQ 2 in Health Care, or Equivalent
  • Clinical skills e.g. venepuncture, blood transfusion, aseptic non touch technique
  • Previous experience in a care setting
  • Previous hospital experience
  • Computer literate
  • Competent in English Language – written and verbal
