About the Role

Young Lives vs Cancer are looking for a qualified and experienced Social Worker to join the team, working 28 hours per week.

Young lives vs Cancer is open to and in support of flexible working. We currently use a hybrid working model. This role falls under the hybrid – variable category. This role is part home, part site based (your contractual base will be both Home and Addenbrooke’s Hospital). You will have the opportunity to work remotely / from home within the parameters of our hybrid working arrangements. Your flexibility requirements and that of the role will be discussed at the interview stage.

The office-based working will be at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, to provide support to children and young people (0-24 years, with a focus on over 13’s) diagnosed with cancer and leukaemia, and their families.

This role is subject to a criminal record check. In the event of a successful application an enhanced criminal record check will be completed. This role is also subject to a Social Worker Registration.

Main Duties

  • To deliver all services in line with the organisation service specification
  • To safeguard children/young people and vulnerable adults, following policy and procedure at all times
  • To complete individual needs-based assessments, identifying levels of need and risks
  • To identify a support plan and review at regular intervals consistent with service standards and outcome measurements
  • To work in partnership with young people and their families to meet their support needs
  • To enable and advocate for patients to have their voices heard in treatment planning and support the social, emotional and practical needs of the young person and family
  • To work in conjunction with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)
  • To raise issues of concern relating to the patient’s or family’s well-being initially Within the MDT and/or with their line manager as appropriate
  • To maintain case records in line with policy and procedures and social work Standards
  • To undertake delegated duties commensurate with the role
  • To be an active team member, regularly attending team meetings and contributing to shared learning and development
  • To ensure parents and young people are aware of and have access to the range of services and engagement and fundraising opportunities available across the charity
  • To support the profile of the charity and promote the service

Qualifications

  • Current Social Work England Registration
  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families/carers in a social care setting.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of child and young people development.
  • An understanding of the impact of serious illness for children, young people and families.
  • All applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of child welfare and safeguarding
