Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced part time Social Work Practitioner to join Salford Adult Social Care.

You should hold a degree in social work, be registered with Social Work England, with evidence of continuing professional development and a strong understanding of the application of Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Safeguarding Adults.

Main duties of the job

  • The main duties of the role includes completing strengths-based assessments and promoting well-being by utilising resources from social care, health and other voluntary or statutory agencies.
  • The role involves undertaking initial assessments, and proactively working with complex and legal issues, crisis planning, providing information, advice, signposting, and transferring to other social work teams or other services as required.
  • You will be a skilled practitioner who can identify whether the need for further assessment under section 9 and 10 of the Care Act is necessary, and transfer these to the relevant social work teams for these assessments to take place.
  • You will also be required to complete support planning and reviews. There is a Safeguarding function within the service, which includes initial information gathering, risk assessing, safety planning and establishing whether Safeguarding Adult Enquiries under section 42 of the Care Act are required.
  • The role requires resilient practitioners who can manage competing demands and prioritise the work demands effectively. The role requires applicants who are confident and decision makers and who can stay calm under pressure.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of a recognised Social Work qualification; Degree, CQSW, CSS, Dip SW or equivalent.
  • You must hold a current registration with the Social Work England.

Skills, knowledge & experience

Essential

  • You must hold a full, current and valid driving licence and have a vehicle with a current valid MOT certificate. You will also need adequate vehicle insurance cover.
  • To undertake social work functions in accordance with legislation, policies, procedures and best practice to deliver services effectively (i.e Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Equality Act)
  • To be able to complete strength based assessments, identify the need and urgency of the situation and implement actions to meet needs and minimise risk whilst balancing peoples rights
  • To be able to effectively triage safeguarding referrals, taking into consideration risk, safety planning and decision making which is underpinned by the Care Act 2014 (s.42)
  • To be accountable for your own workload by prioritising and monitoring your workload, completing timely assessments and support planning
  • To have the ability to develop effective working relationships with the people you work with, their carers / families and other professionals / colleagues
  • To have a clear understanding of the social work role and be able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • To be able to maintain accurate, complete, accessible and up-to-date records and reports which meet legal and policy frameworks, using appropriate Information Technology, systems and software.
  • Ability to keep your knowledge of legal, policy and procedural frameworks and social work models and methods up to date in order to develop and improve your own practice and contribute to team development
  • To be able to support less experienced staff and mentor new staff and / or students across Adult Health and Social Care Services
  • To engage in supervision as a tool to help with managing own workload and improve practice

Desirable

  • You have additional qualifications; Best Interest Assessors; AMHP; Practice Educator; Post Qualifying courses or other professional development qualifications.
  • You can show knowledge of the recent Government Guidelines.
  • Experience of working with adults / carers
