Salary: £12.00 – £12.50 an hour

About the Role

We are Purple Social Care, an independent provider of high-quality care and support to clients throughout Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. We offer professional Housing Support and Care at Home Services that empower people to maintain their independence within their own homes and local community.

Clients include people with physical, mental or learning disabilities.

Your Role

Assists and enable service users to dress, undress, wash, use the toilet and bath; serve meals to service users at table or in bed, and assists with feeding if required; generally assists with service users overall comfort and well-being; provide interest and activities to stimulate and engage the service user; help with daily activities such as letter writing, paying bills, collecting benefits; undertake light cleaning and domestic duties including meal preparation as required; monitor service users conditions by taking temperature, pulse, respiration and weight, and contribute to record keeping; liaise with professional staff in carrying out care plans. Clients include people with physical or learning disabilities, people with autism, people with dementia or memory loss, people with long term health conditions, people with sensory impairment and people with neurological conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing the practical and emotional needs of a client and drawing up a support plan.
  • Support clients with personal care, medication and light house work.
  • Providing emotional support by talking to clients and listening to their problems and helping clients to budget and handle money.
  • Helping clients participate in leisure activities.
  • Accompanying clients in meetings with other agencies and healthcare professionals.
  • Working with clients’ families to help them to support clients in the most effective way possible.
  • Liaising with other support workers, social workers and relevant members of the health care profession.
  • Attending meetings and training courses with colleagues

About You

To be considered as a Support Worker, you will need:

  • a caring, supportive and positive attitude;
  • good communication skills
  • patience, discretion and a high level of professionalism;
  • mediation and negotiation skills;
  • emergency response skills;
  • An SVQ Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care, or the willingness to achieve this.
  • *Full UK Driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
